This song is one of three composed by Shelly Young to express her meditative experience in lyrical form. In the tradition of Buddhist meditation, insight into impermanence (anicca) plays a central role. The term is written anicca but pronounced aniccha. Several documents on this site treat this subject from an analytical perspective. It may be helpful to read the question and answer about anicca toward the end of the article, "Meditation: Escaping Into Life."

In this song, Shelly conveys the message of impermanence from the heart-centered perspective. The song itself may be experienced as a meditation. Close your eyes, settle into a good posture and let the song wash through you.

The CD includes a higher quality version of this song plus two others and Shinzen's dharma talk linking the music to the subject of impermanence. It is available for purchase online in the Audio Tapes section.

If you are using Windows Media Player version 7+, you have the option of choosing a visualization pattern. I recommend that you select Ambience: Water by using the arrow buttons below the image on the Media Player window. It is amazingly similar to the simultaneous expansion and contraction of the Source. — Shinzen
